About

I am an amateur astronomer (since 2005) hailing from Yorkshire, UK.

I decided to start this Blog as a way of being able to keep and share my findings, thoughts, achievements, and answers to my Questions as I journey through this fascinating hobby.

Another reason for starting this blog is to aid my understanding; i’m the type of person that needs to regurgitate what ever I study so that I can remember what I’ve just learnt.  Just simply reading is not enough.  So, some of what you read in this blog will be the regurgitation of what I’ve learnt.  If I’ve got something wrong then let me know; no offence will be taken!

I often get asked what my specific interests are and unfortunately I don’t have a specific interest at heart (I’m just interested in everything); I guess I’ve not got too deep into one subject for me to take root; at the moment I am just content bouncing from one thing to another – there’s just so much out there (stating the obvious I know!)

Thinking about future goals;
I would love to discover something – not for my own ego, just my enjoyment and the thought that I have contributed something to science, another building block as we build on the shoulders of giants.

You will notice some links to other sites contained in this Blog.  Some of these are affiliate links where I receive a small payment in return for sending you to their site.  I do this to help pay for my hobby (no cost to yourself), not to make me stinking rich.

Why the name “Why Astronomy”? My Grandfather often tells me that when when I was young I always used to ask Why?, he used to encourage this and always said, “Whenever you are stuck for a question, you can always ask, Why?”

Astronomers are always asking that basic question, Why? as well as the other Ws What Where When hoW Who.

So, get reading the Blog – I hope you find something interesting; if you do, leave me a comment.
